Sean Foo is a digital content specialist with a knack for producing viral content on Dear Straight People and The Smart Local.
Born in Singapore, Sean graduated with a double degree in Arts and Accounting from Monash University in Melbourne. He started his career as an auditor at a Big 4 audit firm before he left to pursue a career in digital media with The Smart Local Media Group. In 2019, Sean was promoted to Country Head of The Smart Local (Thailand), which has since become Thailand’s fastest growing English publisher, reaching over 2.5 million people a month.
During his final year of university, Sean founded Dear Straight People; a media platform focused on content related to and concerning the LGBTQ+ community. After running Dear Straight People anonymously for 2 years, Sean came out publicly in a viral article as the founder of Dear Straight People in 2017. His coming out was covered in media outlets such as Hornet and Millennials Of Singapore. Since coming out publicly, Sean has participated in a variety of public forums such as The Esquire Talks and most recently, the popular Yah Lah BUT… podcast to talk about matters concerning the LGBTQ+ community.
Today, Dear Straight People is arguably Asia’s leading English LGBTQ+ media platform, with a strong social media presence across Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. Some of Dear Straight People’s most viral works include a vlog on a same-sex Thai wedding, a documentary on a gay Malay couple and a photoshoot advocating for the repeal of Section 377A in Singapore.
