Benita has a background in community outreach and working in academia, NGOs and think-tank. More recently her work has focused on diversity and inclusion. She founded a social enterprise in 2018 called Encompass HK to promote gender diversity through advocating for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). A major focus of this enterprise is SDG 5 Gender Equality and SDG 10 Reduced inequality.
With a multicultural background and abundant experience in working with people from diverse backgrounds, Benita successfully connects and engages different organizations through talks and workshops on gender equality and diversity, sustainability and human rights. She curates and guides an award-winning walking tour that explores Hong Kong’s LGBT+ history and culture. Benita is consulted regularly by local and international media on related issues, and through these channels further advanced the goal of inclusivity within the community as well as promoted effective advocacy and progress. She is now a Board Member at AIDS Concern Hong Kong, a former Director of IDAHOT (International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia) in Pink Alliance, a member of the admission committee in UWCLPC and a radio host at a local online LGBT+ channel called “Bubble Air”. Benita recently spoke at a TEDx event on her experience as a scuba diving instructor as well as on diversity and inclusion.
